Mentoring system to help at individual levels

The Institution has a student support and mentoring system
  • Mentoring plays a vital role in a student’s professional and personal skill development, by focusing on areas such as acculturation, career planning, counseling related to individual students, and also to identify the goals and guide them in advancement of their field.
  • Mentoring staff regularly monitors and counsels the students in the field of academics, training research interests and encourages participating in extra and co-curricular activities.
  • Student mentoring system starts during the first year immediately after the student gets an admission into the college. Faculties who are teaching first year students are allotted with a number of students (1:15 to 1:20) as their mentees.
  • The mentor acts as a local student counselor and takes the responsibility of mentoring their students until completion of the course.
  • Interaction with newly joined students regarding any personal information, strengths/ weaknesses and information on mentoring is given during the orientation program itself.
  • A new customized student mentorship booklet is maintained by the faculty for each student which includes their personal information, academic performance, interests, efforts, subject teacher suggestions, observations and remarks by the mentor.
  • The mentor might discuss individually or in a group to all the mentees and rectify their problems. Each periodic status of academic and performance related issues are discussed with the students and is informed to their parents/guardians.
  • Mentors encourage the mentees to develop and improve their skills and talents in appropriate fields and aim for an overall development of the student. This will be continued till the student completes his/her graduation.
  • Slow and advanced learners are identified based on the internal exam, knowledge and cognitive skills. In this process slow learners are given academic, moral support and encouraged to attend tutorial and remedial classes. Advanced learners are encouraged to present papers in conferences and symposiums, attend workshops and involve in college level research activities.
  • Students are informed regarding various scholarships, research fellowships, competitive examinations, career opportunities, placement information and skill development programs. Competitive exam guidance is provided to all interested candidates.
  • Students are also encouraged in carrier guidance and are guided according to their zeal and importance towards each specific field.
